Minutes of July 2006 Meeting

Oklahoma Space Alliance was to have a meeting and party at the SoonerCon science fiction convention in Oklahoma City on July 15, but since only Tom Koszoru and Syd Henderson showed up for the meeting, we went directly for the party. Syd Henderson had reserved the room and was the host for the party. Steve Browne [not Andrew Heaton, as earlier written--SFH], a summer reporter for the Oklahoma Daily interviewed Tom and Syd about the Oklahoma Space Alliance and the National Space Society. The party itself ran from 8:00 p.m. past 11:00 p.m., and we had up to seven or eight people pretty steadily through the night, with perhaps thirty or forty dropping by.
For more information about SoonerCon, see Syd Henderson’s review on the Oklahoma Space Alliance website: http://osa.nss.org/index.html.

Opportunity to assist national project

From Jim Plaxco: “The National Space Society Space Settlement Calendar Committee is in the
process of establishing a Space Settlement Art Contest. The purpose of this contest is to generate new artwork illustrating future space settlements in the solar system. Twelve winning entries will be selected to illustrate the 2008 Space Settlement Calendar to be published by a major calendar publisher.
As an incentive to attract and reward artists for their participation in the contest, the committee is offering a variety of prizes to the winning artists.
Our committee would like to offer chapters a chance to participate in this project as project sponsors. In return for a cash prize contribution of $200 dollars, the chapter will be recognized as a sponsor of the Space Settlement Art Contest and the 2008 Space Settlement Calendar. The chapter will be identified on both the Space Settlement Art Contest web site and in the printed calendar.
If your chapter would like to participate in this project, please contact Jim Plaxco at [email protected] before the end of August.”

Space-Related Panels at FenCon

The NSS of North Texas folks (hosts for the 2007 ISDC which OSA has agreed to work for) will be involved in panels at FenCon this September. Cliff & Claire plan to attend, and can offer a ride if someone else would like to come along. The convention runs Sept. 22-24, but we won’t be coming back until Monday afternoon, the 25th. For FenCon information, see www.fencon.org.

OSIDA Meeting Changed

The Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority meeting which had been scheduled for August 9 has been postponed until August 23. The meeting will still be held in Oklahoma City at the Department of Transportation in the Commission Room at 1:30 p.m.
